Crack!
Monday, March 1st, 2010

That sounds like chocolate, Jeremy thought, dark chocolate being broken off a bar. That’s not very considerate of Brooke to dig into her stash when I’m healing from oral surgery. A moment later, Brooke appeared in the living room holding one piece of Lindt in her mouth, and extending another piece in her hand.

Jeremy shook his head. “Oh, I really shouldn’t eat that.”

“Just suck on it,” she wasn’t offended that her offering was rejected, she was just shocked that anyone could reject a chuck of 70% dark chocolate.

“No, because chocolate spreads all over in my mouth and will get into my stitches.”

“Oh, I’m sorry.” Brooke paused contemplatively for the briefest of moments. It didn’t take her long to uncover the solution: “OK, I’ll eat it.”

Time for some chocolate
Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

Well, it’s been 2 years since Jeremy gave me the wonderful gift of a chocolate bar a week.  This last year has gone by quickly, and really is mostly a blur, but somewhere in the middle there was a special gift from France, and the year ended with another gift of chocolate. Yum!! :)

We’re not complaining about the chocolate
Monday, November 3rd, 2008

Brooke should really make this post, but she’s getting a routine non-stress test, so I’m here with Miles.

I work with two women who each have a three-year-old: One’s Hungarian (Janka) and the other is Chinese (Jie). (I know this sounds like a really bad joke, but it’s not.) Last Halloween I was teaching an evening class (what kind of professor would cancel class on Halloween?) so Brooke went out with Janka’s family. That started a little tradition where we get together for trick-or-treating.

This year I invited both Janka and Jie to bring their boys over to our neighborhood (which is awesome BTW). Jie’s parents are on an extended vacation here (while Jie’s husband finishes his dissertation in Tennesee), so they came to experience their first Halloween. They speak almost no English, but are extremely generous, as evidenced by the “candy” they brought for Ben and Miles:

Yes, this is Miles enjoying a Ferrero Rocher. He received his own 12-pack, and so did Ben. Needless to say, we’ve been… “sharing” a bit.

I love chocolate! Weeks 34 – 40
Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

I love chocolate! And as always, I would love to hear comments back if any of you have tried the chocolate I’ve reviewed. As a side note, Ben has asked that I give him a chocolate bar a week coupon for next year. So, Jeremy thanks again for such a wonderful gift. :)

On to my reviews:

Week 34:

Well, since week 32 turned out to be a flop (the grocer didn’t even scan it), I wanted to give the Lindt Madagascar a 2nd chance. This chocolate bar is described as Swiss dark chocolate with cocoa beans from Madagascar. It is 65% cocoa, and is considered Extra Fine Mild Dark. First of all, I must say that Lindt truly does an excellent job at making their chocolates irresistbly creamy and this one is no exception. This quality alone, makes this brand worth buying at least in my book. They also do a good job at keeping their bars reasonably priced (for exotic chocolates). As for this particular bar, it tastes darker than you think it should and is very satisfying. If you looking for a feel good, no bones about it chocolate bar, this may be the bar for you.

Overall satisfaction: Excellent

Mmmm Chocolate! :) Weeks 22-32
Friday, August 15th, 2008

I’ve really been a slacker when it comes to my chocolate posts, and I’m sorry about that. I usually just let Jeremy take care of the “this is our life” post, but this one aspect is mine (although I do share at least a little bit with the boys). First of all I must say this list is not complete. I have not been faithful to my weekly chocolate for budget purposes; I have cut down to about every other week, and thus I do not have a complete list. But, I assure you the chocolate that has been consumed has been worth it!

Chocolate weeks 20 & 21
Sunday, May 25th, 2008

I need to get these reviews in today. We are moving on Wednesday, and are not sure if we will be able to afford the internet in our new HOUSE!! So, you might not hear from me for a little while. But, don’t worry I’ll still be eating my chocolate and saving my reviews. :)

More great chocolate: Weeks 16-19

Week 16:

Guylian Extra Dark

I have a passion for dark chocolate so for this week I chose Guylian 70% cocoa Extra Dark. Guylian is a creamy Belgian chocolate. This chocolate is a no-bones-about-it dark chocolate. It has a hint of bitterness, but it is not overpowering. You just need a bite to satisfy and it’s highly recommended.

Overall Satisfaction: Good

Camille Bloch Mousse Chocolat Noir

I got my chocolate bar at the end of last week, so it has really lasted me this week as well. I don’t mind, I’ve eaten it slowly and it is definitely worth the indulgence, and its own post. The bar in question: Camille Bloch Mousse Chocolat Noir. Oh, it’s good. :) For those of you who don’t speak French, noir means dark. This dark chocolate bar is from Switzerland and has a creamy, satisfying mousse filling. It is not bitter, just mmmm, mmmm good.

Overall Satisfaction: Excellent

Weeks 8-13
Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

I know it’s been awhile since I’ve written one of my chocolate reviews, sorry about that. These will be short and sweet (mostly because I can’t remember the exact details of taste and texture).

Week 8

Symphony Milk Chocolate with Almonds and ToffeeAfter all the gourmet chocolate, this week I was in the mood for my favorite candy bar – the Symphony Milk Chocolate with Almonds and Toffee. Although not as satisfying as a smooth dark luxurious chocolate, this chocolate provides a quick pick me up and always brings a smile.

Overall Satisfaction: Good

A Chocolate bar a week (weeks 6&7)
Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

Week 6:

This week, Jeremy had the great idea of going to the mother ship of all grocery stores, Wegmans in Pittsford. We’ve been to this store once before last April, and it truly has everything you could want and more. It is here, we found the truffle mushrooms for $999.99/lb. (I thought Ben was mistaken, but then I saw for myself. Check out the picture.)
